More Canyon Ferry

More Canyon Ferry

Here are some more pictures I took back in '01 when I went fishing and took the shot I worked from in the painting. The fish is a ling.  The mountain behind is Canyon Ferry.  The stop sign is coming out of the Bunk House parking lot.

I assume you want to know if ling eat flies?  They eat swarms of perch fry under the ice, and I've heard of old-timers catching them on worms and dog food at Clark Canyon on the Ruby and near Park City on the Yellowstone (while they burned tires to keep themselves warm), but I've never, EVER, heard of anyone catching one on a fly, even as ravenous as those f*ckers are.  Maybe that's the new challenge.

Primordial Placoderms

It’s the winter of 1980, the cold is radiating through my Vibram soles. The ling looks stunned and alive - an evolutionary snapshot from a cave man’s instamatic. The ling’s colors against the blue CF ice are beautiful. I can’t believe Vern and I use to drop kick these primordial placoderms to the shore. I wonder if GK will paint the ling image.
