The Wrong Water, A Western Fish Rescue

Truckee river levels are low. In July and August that means uncomfortably warm. Trout don’t like uncomfortably warm. Thankfully the Truckee River Keepers and other like minded individuals asked that a hoot owl closure be respected, which means no fishing during the hottest part of the day.

Well, flows dropped more, also known as being diverted into irrigation ditches. A bunch of trout, and some really nice ones at that, followed the water into these ditches. Watermasters take notice of the situation, decide to shut the ditches off and push all that water back into the river channel. Great, but what about all those fish still in the ditches?

Well, Nevada Dept. of Wildlife, Truckee Meadows Water Authority, Truckee River Keepers and a handful of local guides and concerned volunteers stepped in and shocked things up. See below for a fun afternoon video edit from CatchSnapRelease.

Nice work everyone.
