Tim Romano, photo editor for FFJ, likes to spend a few days each January flyfishing the Gulf Coast for large, Louisiana redfish. Winter generally is considered prime time for hunting record-setting reds in the marshes surrounding New Orleans.

“The first two were busts due to weather. Third day we ran 51 miles offshore to the Chandeleur Islands and had many doubles and a couple of close triples on redfish in the 20-to-35 pound range. Pretty good day on a fly,” says Romano.
