American Rivers 5000 Miles of Wild

Wild and Scenic Rivers Act 50th Anniversary

To help celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Wild and Scenic Rivers Act, which was established in 1968 to preserve special rivers whose beautiful natural, cultural and recreational value are worth more as a free-flowing whole, for ourselves and generations to come, American Rivers has kicked off the 5000 Miles of Wild campaign. With a goal of protecting 5,000 new miles of Wild and Scenic rivers in 13 different states, in bend, bank, rapid, meander and eddy, it’s truly something worth supporting, for yourself and generations to come. Check out the campaign and add your support here.

From American Rivers: “5,000 MILES. 5,000 STORIES. ONE UNIFIED VOICE. We are bringing together grassroots partners, individuals and businesses in a united campaign for wild rivers, in anticipation of the 50th anniversary of the Wild and Scenic Rivers Act in 2018. Our goal is to protect 5,000 miles of new Wild and Scenic Rivers and one million acres of riverside lands nationwide. As part of this effort, we are sharing stories of America’s rivers and the people who love them. By collecting 5,000 personal stories from people across the country and presenting them in film, social media and other channels, we will celebrate how rivers connect us all.
