Sea-run cutthroat from Washington state’s Hood Canal. Photo: Dave McCoy

A specimen of specimens. This perfectly colored wild sea-run cutthroat from Washington state’s Hood Canal was caught during the chum fry outmigration in late February. Coastal cutthroat gorge on the salmon fry from late winter into early spring, and a small gurgler or slider cast into scattering bait balls provides plenty of wintertime surface distraction.
