Mayflies will spend somewhere between a few weeks to two years as a nymph, and from a few hours to a few days as a flying insect. When the hatch is on, they cover the water and fill the air; they cling onto rocks, trees, and even the side of the clinker-style boats. Made locally, the boats’ undersides are painted a specific shade of green to blend in with Sheelin’s famously verdant waters. Photo: Ben Etridge
